Augmented Focus
When an Augmented Xperience (AX) hearing aid analyses sound, it doesn't just identify the presence of speech and noise and then apply changes to the one signal. Thanks to Augmented Focus, Signia hearing aids can now split the sound environment in two parts and optimise each individually and without compromise. This is possible because Signia has, for the first time, two separate processors: one for sounds in focus, like your conversational partner’s voice, the other for surroundings.
Signia's unique Augmented Focus technology offers an unprecedented hearing experience that goes beyond previous natural-sounding solutions. This is augmented hearing that lets you enjoy crystal-clear speech with an amazing immersive soundscape in any situation.
What is Augmented Focus?
Augmented Focus is the flagship feature of Signia’s Augmented Xperience (AX) platform.
Traditionally, hearing aids have processed all sounds as one signal under the same set of rules. The problem with only having one processor is that all signals are competing against each other. As a result, in any situation one part of the signal is always going to be prioritised over others.
With Augmented Focus technology, target speech and ambient signals are separated and processed independently and then recombined to deliver outstanding speech clarity while making surrounding sounds enjoyable.
This revolutionary split processing really changes the way you will hear the world:
Crystal Clear Speech in an Immersive Environment
How does Augmented Focus work?
Augmented Focus pulls the speech and the noise parts of the sound signal apart at the input stage and sends them through two separate processing tracks. Each is adjusted independently and optimised with appropriately matched gain, compression and noise reduction.
Surroundings |
Focus Sounds |
Surroundings contain all sounds outside the main focus, placing the wearer in the correct acoustic atmosphere. This is important to create both awareness and excitement, for example enjoying piano music and laughter in a café. These sounds are processed with high spatial resolution, applying more compression and attenuation to keep them at a distance from the focus sounds. Sudden loud sounds can be addressed more quickly than ever before to prevent them from masking focus sounds. |
Focus sounds carry relevant information where every small detail is important, for example the speech of a conversational partner. These sounds are processed in a highly linear, uncompressed way with emphasis on clarity and details. This pulls speech closer to the listener so it sounds as clear as possible. |
Benefits of Augmented Focus
Augmented Focus creates a unique sound experience by shaping the two signal streams independently and without compromise.
Think of Augmented Focus like the movie sound engineer who has access to different sound tracks in a movie (dialogue, atmosphere and music) and can apply different sound design philosophies by combining each in varying ways.
As a result, Augmented Focus brings outstanding clarity to any situation without cutting out parts of the sound scene.
